As always with recent releases, we thought it would be interesting to compile some background information to each release. So, here’s Jor-El aka Joel Alter & Basic Soul Unit talking about how their tracks on “Orange” came into being.
How did the record come about? Was there a musical premise or sounds you wanted to approach? How and when did you produce the tracks? And how did it end up in Uncanny Valley?
Joel Alter: This track is one of those evolving through time going from the initial idea to something totally different. To be honest I don´t rememberhow it all came about but I was very happy in the end to reach that classic house techno feeling but still with a modern approach.I really love the afro feel percussion in the end, that felt like new territory. I think it was finished in late 2017. For those who did´nt know I released my debut album as Joel Alter on Uncanny Valley in 2015 so we will be forever connected…
Basic Soul Unit: The track was produced before UV asked me about the compilation. The premise was just to do a simple groove track, not over complicate anything and go for a groove and feeling.
Do you feel in good company with the other artists and the artwork? Does the package make sense to you?
Joel Alter: I feel very much at home with these guys, people that I admire and been playing music from over the years. I think it´s a perfectly curated ep with a good sense of progression.
Basic Soul Unit: Yes, happy with all the contributors and overall sound and package.
What’s next for you? What are you working on currently?
Joel Alter: I’m am currently working on some top secret techno material. I’m not allowed to disclose any information at all.An there is an even more secret house record in the pipeline… 😉
Basic Soul Unit: An EP on Dolly. Also i’m in talks with other labels for future releases.
